THE first regular farmers’ market held in Worcester city centre has been hailed a success.
There was an array of fresh, locally grown produce on sale in Angel Place yesterday, with more than 25 stallholders selling home-grown goods from ciders and quince jam to pork sausages and scotch eggs.
It is hoped that the city centre farmers’ market, which will take place from 9am to 3pm on the third Sunday of every month, will encourage more people to support local producers and help the environment by cutting down on food miles.
Roger Styan, of Evesham, was selling fresh vegetables grown at home by his family.
“This is where we want to be,” he said. “We’ve seen quite a few of our regular customers already, which is really encouraging, but we’re also getting passing trade.
The existing farmers’ market will continue to be held at the former Royal Worcester Porcelain site in Severn Street on the first Sunday of each month. Find out when market are on by visiting wfmg.co.uk, and read the market column in your Worcester News every Saturday.
