A MAN has been charged with causing a crash which killed a hospital chaplain.

The Rev Ian Scott died following the crash on the A4103 in Bransford, near Worcester - the night before his 64th birthday.

His widow, Sue – a passenger in the same car, suffered a broken pelvis and five others were also injured in the July smash.

Mr Scott, a father of two grown-up children, of Corbett Avenue, Droitwich, was the chaplain at Evesham Community Hospital from 2007 and before that he was a chaplain for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

An inquest later heard that Mr Scott’s blue Vauxhall Astra Club was parked at traffic lights when a yellow Mitsubishi Evo ran into the back of his vehicle.

Yesterday South Worcestershire Police announced they had charged a man, in his 20s, with causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

The man, who has not been named, is due to appear before Worcester Magistrates Court on Friday, October 30.

The inquest was adjourned for reports.
