THESE are crucial days for the future of Worcester City Football Club. Struggling on the pitch and beset by financial problems off it, the club today unveils yet another plan for a new stadium.

Loyal fans of the St George’s Lane club will know the latest proposal is one in a long line stretching back more than 20 years. The new scheme is a scaled-down version of the Nunnery Way development that has been the subject of much controversy in recent years.

The reduced plan comes on the back of developers Careys New Homes offering only £3.5 million for St George’s Lane compared to the £7 million than was on the table two years ago.

Shareholders and supporters get the chance to subject the plan to scrutiny and have their say about the future of the club tonight.

We would urge people to attend the 7pm meeting in the Graeme Hick Pavilion at New Road.

Some supporters have been vociferous in their opposition to the current board of directors. Tonight they can have their say.

The directors are adamant they have the best interests of Worcester City FC at heart and are striving to save the club. Tonight they can have their say.

We say these are crucial days for the club because it cannot continue to stagger along weighed down by massive debts.

Its only asset is its current ground. Moving to a new home is the only option for survival.

How that happens and in what form really needs to be decided before the end of this year.

Compromises will have to be made on both sides of the Worcester City divide. The alternative is oblivion.
