REVELLERS will have plenty to get their teeth into at the first ever St Peter’s Festival.

Opening on Friday with a free firework display in Battenhall Park at 7pm, the Lottery-funded event is aimed at bringing the community together.

The festival is packed with features, from stand-up comedy, history walks and songs from the musicals to a five-a-side football tournament.

It is aiming to create a toehold in Worcester’s busy entertainment events calendar over three days, starting with a silk painting workshop at Whittington Church, Church Lane, Whittington, from 3pm to 5pm on Friday.

Max Allsup, festival committee member, said the events would showcase entertainment in venues in Battenhall and St Peter’s.

“People can come along, support the event, pick what they fancy doing and, hopefully, next year we can do this again,” he said.

The festival has the backing of the area’s churches and schools, St Peter’s Parish Council and drama group C&T Theatre, who have drawn on their network of contacts to bring acts like comedienne Jude Simpson, who wowed crowds at the Edinburgh Fringe this year.

She performs at St Peter’s Baptist Church, St Peter’s Drive, at 8pm on Friday, with tickets priced £5.

Young families can see a puppet show of nursery rhymes from around the world with shows at 2pm and 3.30pm on Saturday at the baptist church.

Sporty people can sign up to the five-a-side football tournament on the multi-use games area next to the baptist church on Sunday.

The event draws to a close with a lantern procession along St Peter’s Drive, starting at 7pm from the baptist church.
