A FAMILY fun day held in memory of a heroic soldier from Worcester who died in Afghanistan raised £1,300 for two charities.

Friends of Private Jason Williams rallied around to organise last Saturday’s event in Gheluvelt Park, Barbourne, Worcester.

It was held a day after Pte Williams, who was serving with 2nd Battalion Mercian Regiment (Worcesters and Foresters) when he was killed while trying to retrieve the body of an Afghan commrade on August 8, would have turned 24.

The money raised will go to Help for Heroes and Myeloma Cancer.

The family fun day saw children and adults enjoy live music, a merry-go-round, a bouncy castle, while representatives from the Army, fire, ambulance and police services also played a part.

Anyone who wishes to make a further charitable donation can do so by contacting co-organiser Michelle Elliott on 07895 669412.
