CAMPAIGNERS have appealed for more help to pick up litter in Worcestershire.

So far schoolchildren, students and Scouts have agreed to take part in the Rubbish? Sort it! campaign which has been running across the county for two weeks.

On Friday, volunteers met at the Pickersleigh Community Centre, Malvern, for the campaign’s latest litter-pick.

However, following a poorly attended event the previous organisers have urged more people to come forward for forthcoming picks.

The campaign by the Worcestershire Duckworth Trust, has been going for nine years.

The trust’s education and information officer Laura Chapman said: “We’ve got quite a few more picks planned and we are really looking forward to getting more registration forms.”

Miss Chapman said rubbish continued to be a problem in Worcester: “I think the city council do a really good job at collecting the litter but everybody needs to do their bit instead of just being lazy and throwing it on the floor.”

Volunteers only need to fill in a sheet of paper to register and are provided with all necessary equipment. Forms are available from Miss Chapman on 01905 734980 or by e-mailing education@ dwt.org.uk.Litter-picks include: St John’s Campus, University of Worcester, on Friday; Tolladine Centre, Tolladine, Worcester, on Tuesday, October 27; Gheluvelt Park, Barbourne, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday, October 28.
