A STANDING ovation was a fitting conclusion to the first concert of Evesham & District Music Club’s winter programme.

Pianist James Lisney performed piano sonatas by Haydn, Brahms and Schubert at the Evesham Arts Centre.

Beverley Juggins, a member of the audience, said: “We were thrilled by James Lisney’s performance. The music is difficult but he was more than equal to the task. He is well-known through his concerts, broadcasts and recordings, and to see him in person performing in Evesham was a real treat.”

The winter programme has been devised to appeal to a broad audience, including younger people.

The next concert is on Thursday, December 3, when an appearance by the Stanford String Quartet will include Mozart’s Prussian Quartet.
