CHOIRS will be singing at a special event in Worcerster tonight.

The corporate Last Choir Standing event has been organised to raise vital funds for Leukaemia Care.

The event, which is taking place in the Pitchview Suite, Sixways Stadium, Worcester, at 6pm, is being sponsored by Postcode Anywhere.

The event was inspired by the BBC’s Last Choir Standing, which was won by Welsh Choir Only Men Allowed, and The Choir programme, which sees Gareth Malone turn complete novices into choristers able to perform on concert platforms.

Among those taking part will be a choir from Worcestershire law firm Thursfields Solicitors.

Nick O’Hara, Thursfields’ managing partner, said he saw the competition as an ideal opportunity to raise money for charity as well as a vehicle to bring work colleagues together for an enjoyable challenge.

The idea gathered pace at a Worcestershire Ambassador’s meeting, which was held at Postcode Anywhere, and before long a number of businesses and public sector organisations had decided to take part.

Under the musical direction of Robin Humphreys, associate in the civil litigation department at Thursfields and with support from colleagues across the firm, Thursfields’ songbirds are aiming to hit the high notes.

Mr O’Hara said: “I would not have believed how eagerly our team has embraced the challenge of singing together as a choir. When you consider that many of them have never performed publicly before or even participated in an organised singing group, it makes me really proud that they are doing this for such a great cause.

“I will be cheering them on vociferously along with friends, families and the rest of our colleagues supporting the event.”
