FOLLOWING success against Redditch United in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup, we now want to progress in the FA Trophy.

It would be good to be involved with two cup competitions and have a distraction from the league, although we haven’t lost sight of where we are in the table.

Saturday’s third qualifying round tie against Burnham will be a testing game for us because they are unbeaten all season in the league, albeit two levels below us.

I have been to watch them a couple of times so I know where we can get at them and I know their strengths and weaknesses.

We are in the second tier of non-league football so if the draw is kind to us we could progress quite a long way in the competition.

But the first hurdle is Burnham, it won’t be easy but we will be prepared and if we don’t win it will be our fault.

That said, the more games we get, the more revenue we can generate for the club so it would be nice to have a good run in the Trophy.

Alfie Carter could come in at left-back now Shabir Khan is off with Pakistan but he can also play up front and was a major threat against Redditch.

Kevin Spencer, Graham Ward and Rob Davies are also big assets to us because they can play in various positions.

Louis Bridges is similar and I am pleased he is doing well because it’s a big step up from college football and we nearly didn’t take him on at the start of the season.

Away from City, I am as pleased as punch for Mark Cooper getting the job at Peterborough. We speak to each other nearly every day and we have always been good friends.

We played against each other and then together at Tamworth towards the end of our careers and I was also his assistant at the Lamb.

It’s a big jump up but what he did at Kettering was phenomenal. He’s got the mentality to go forward and hopefully he will make a success of it.

I wasn’t surprised, he’s been linked with a lot of clubs and, knowing him well, I have got no doubts he can do the job.

It’s refreshing to see young, British managers given a chance at a higher level, you don’t see it very often.

Darren Ferguson, who Mark replaced at Peterborough, is another who has been very successful. Two promotions in two seasons is about as good as you can do and I am sure he will end up in the top three divisions.

I know a lot of managers in the Championship who have come from nowhere, like Kevin Blackwell at Sheffield United.

I knew him when he was reserve team goalkeeper at Notts County. Neil Warnock took Kevin everywhere with him as an assistant but I didn’t realise how good a coach he was until he took over at Leeds United in 2004.
