Flooding of low lying land and roads is expected in Worcestershire, the Environment Agency has warned.

The Agency issued the warning - known as a Flood Watch - this morning for areas near to the river Severn.

The level at the Worcester gauge, at Barbourne, was 3.19m (10.4ft) and rising and was expected to peak between 3.4m (11.1ft) and 3.8m (12.5ft) tomorrow morning.

The level at the Diglis gauge, Diglis, was 2.6m (8.5ft) and rising and was expected to peak between 2.9m (9.5ft) and 3.3m (10.8ft) tomorrow morning.

At Bewdley, the level was measured at 3.3m (10.8ft) and rising and was expected to peak between 3.3m (10.8ft) and 3.5m (11.5ft) this afternoon.

The Agency has warned farmland between Worcester and Tewkesbury could be affected along with lowlying roads at Upton-upon-Severn.

Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari said more rain was expected over the next five to seven days but would be interspersed with drier spells.

He said:” There will be prolonged heavy showers tomorrow and next week it’s likely to be disturbed and very windy but we’ll have shortlived drier intervals.

“There will be winds tomorrow and into Monday of up to 50 miles per hour.”
