A Worcester school has five new additions.
However, Cluck, Eggbertha, Maple, Syrup and Tulip – as named by pupils at St George’s School in Thorneloe Walk, Barbourne – do not look like your average classmates.
Living in a coop and run area, the ex-battery hens have a lot more freedom than in their previous habitat.
The hens are attended to by the youngsters, who take it in turns to feed, clean and collect the eggs. Headteacher Michael Painter said: “Working with animals promotes a sense of wonder and well-being.”
