SHOPPERS are being warned to be on their guard after two women were targeted by pick-pockets in a Worcester shop.

Police are telling Christmas shoppers to be watchful after separate incidents in Ethel Austin in Broad Street between 2pm and 3pm on Thursday, December 17.

In one incident a woman was jostled by one of two women, who she challenged although nothing was taken.

The same two women are then believed to have targeted another female shopper and her purse containing cash and personal items was taken.

“In the rush to get ready for Christmas it is easy to get distracted and not take proper care of your valuables when out shopping,” said a police spokesman.

“We, therefore, urge everyone to take that little bit of extra care to ensure they do not make life easy for unscrupulous thieves such as the two who had some success among city centre shoppers.

“We urge those with purses to keep them securely in hand-bags or other bags and never have them on view for prolonged periods – only bringing them out as required.”

The two thieves are described as possibly of eastern European descent, quite young, of small build, short, dark-haired and wearing dark clothing.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 0300 333 3000, quoting 398S/171209 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
