Oak Apple Women's Institute

OUR December meeting was our Christmas party and we were lucky that so many visitors from other WIs accepted our invitation.

This made it a very jolly occasion, with the village hall decorations putting us all in a festive mood. Rosemary welcomed everyone and there being no important business or notices, we went straight into the entertainment.

The Pershore U3A choir sang a varied selection of songs, ending the first half with the rendition of Jingle Bells with some help from the audience.

We then enjoyed a selection of sandwiches, savouries, cakes and mince pies and a cuppa, all provided by members.

The choir then gave us another toe-tapping selection of songs with the audience’s response showing their great appreciation.

Rosemary thanked them for giving us a most enjoyable evening.

Meanwhile, brains had been busy with a musical quiz. This was jointly won by teams from North Claines and Kempsey, with Kempsey being the eventual winners by the luck of the draw.

There were numerous prizes in the raffle, which was then drawn with winners from many of the different WIs.

Oak Apple’s own monthly draw for a Santa Claus was decided by our visiting WI adviser Wendy Booth and the winner was Elaine Prescott, with a very rotund but jovial Father Christmas.

The trading stall, with many craft gifts, had also been busy. We are going out for a meal for our January meeting but will meet again at Whittington village hall on February 16 at 7.30pm, when we will have a cookery demonstration from Sarah Dover.

We would love to welcome visitors and potential new members to this meeting.
