A HUSBAND and wife team from Malvern will offer the UK’s first dedicated course in using mobile phone cameras.
Phil and Rachel Hibberd, who live in Malvern Link, are both professional photographers who have taught at Malvern College and Worcester College of Technology.
In the past they had focused on using relatively expensive equipment until they hit upon the idea of offering one-day courses in using the cameras attached as standard to many mobile phones.
Mr Hibberd, who runs Photography Made Simple, said: “We find from teaching kids in school that very often they do not have access to decent cameras but they always have access to a phone. My son who goes to the Chase school has a Facebook page with over 150 pictures on it.
“They do not have any guidance and their cameras are very simple but in a way it’s easier to teach someone with a simple camera than a complicated one.”
With few of the high-tech functions available on camera phones, the Hibberds focus their tuition on using composition to get the best out of their shots.
Mr Hibberd said: “It’s basically to get them taking pictures with a little bit more thought. You don’t have a lot to play with but you can get the composition right.”
One-day courses will be held at Bristol’s Ashton Court on January 8, London’s Crystal Palace Park on January 16, and Birmingham Central Library on January 17. The courses cost £40 per person.
