GENEROUS visitors to a Worcester hair salon have been donating piles of tins of dog and cat food to help abandoned animals.
The pet lovers were responding to an appeal by Tony Clissett, who runs Le Salon in the city’s Bath Road.
He had offered clients a five per cent discount on their haircut in return for their donations, which he will now pass to the animal welfare centre in Malvern.
Mr Clissett said he had seen a fantastic response to his appeal.
He said: “One side of the shop is full.
“I had trouble opening the door this morning.
“I think I’ve got enough for about a year’s worth of food for the dogs.
“I’ve got a rescue dog and this is my way of saying thanks.
“They’ve only got two volunteers there.
“With a recession on, those that get left out are the dogs and cats, because people can’t look after them anymore.”
As reported in your Worcester News yesterday, more than 100 pets in Worcestershire, including 60 cats and 35 dogs, were abandoned over the festive period.
