A pub near Worcester has remained open to offer people warm relief from the icy weather.

The Berkley Arms in Spetchley has been offering cold passer-bys comfort from the cold by handing out complimentary bowls of soup for the past two days.

Because it is on a main road, the pub has stayed open as support for people travelling to and from work and lorry drivers.

People who stop at the pub can expect a homely atmosphere with a roaring fire, hot drinks and other meals.

Sian Thomas, landlady at the Berkley Arms, said: "People still have to work despite the snow, so we stayed open because then they can stop if they want to and have some hot soup or a hot drink to warm them up. We still have to provide a service for people.

"We've had two families, and a couple, and two lorry drivers come in seek solace from the cold at lunchtime today (Wednesday). We have a big car park so it's big enough for lorries to stop.

"We'll be offering the complimentary soup all week, because it's forecast to be cold for the rest of the week. I don't know if there'll be more snow but it'll still be cold."
