A VIRTUAL tour showing how Worcester’s riverside will look once new paving, lighting and seating has been installed is available for all to see.

Worcester City Council has uploaded a video of its £800,000 waterfront project which focuses on the area between Worcester Bridge and Diglis Island. Work is already well underway on the riverside improvement project which is due to be completed later this year.

The finished project will include new seating, picnic and viewing areas along improved footpaths and cycle routes, as well as interpretations of the area’s natural and social history at key points.

There are also plans to expand the spaces around the Swan statue on Kleve Walk, the Watergate and Severn Street.

Additional seating and lighting along the stretch between the canal and Worcester bridge is also planned along with extensive improvements to the riverbank vegetation and habitat.

About 50 diseased trees have already been cut down with replacements due to be planted later in the year.

The work on the east bank of the river will cost £200,000, with improvements on the west side costing £600,000.

As previously reported in your Worcester News, construction of a £1.8 million foot and cycle bridge near Diglis Island has already started and it is hoped that will be ready for people to use in the summer.
