A man was airlifted to hospital yesterday after being injured while riding a motorcross in woods in Herefordshire.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a piece of woodland at the rear of a large farm near to Michaelchurch Escley shortly after 2.15pm.
A paramedic in a 4x4 responder vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham were sent to the scene. The fire service were also in attendance.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The paramedic arrived at the farm and was directed to the injured man by a friend. The paramedic drove the 4x4 approximately 800 yards through the dense, muddy, woodland to reach the patient.
“Due to the location of the incident, the air ambulance landed in a nearby field just on the edge of the woodland.
“The 26 year old man had suffered a dislocated knee after coming off his bike.
“Crews administered pain relief to the man and immobilised his leg using a splint. The man was then carried on a stretcher to the awaiting air ambulance by crews with the help of his friends and the fire service. The man was flown to Hereford County Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
