Appeal is made over fence ruling

A HOME-OWNER has been told his fencing is too high after putting it up without permission.

The 1.8m wooden fence was put up at a house in Synehurst, in Badsey, near Evesham, two years ago without permission from Wychavon District Council.

Planning rules ban the building of fences over 1m high so close to a public street.

Councillors heard two retrospective applications to keep the fence had been refused first in 2008, when a complaint was first made about the fence, and then again last year.

The householder will now be served with an enforcement notice and has a month to either reduce the fence height to 1m or less, or completely remove the fence where it runs next to the street.

The home-owner has now submitted an appeal against refusal.

Coun Reg Jakeman, ward member, said: “In fairness we should leave enforcement until after the appeal result.”

Officers confirmed the enforcement period would start only after the appeal had finished.
