A GROUP of pupils will be walking along the South Downs to raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The year 10 pupils from Queen Elizabeth Humanities College in Bromyard will be walking the South Downs Way in August to raise funds for the charity which has a hospice in Bath Road, Worcester.

The youngsters will arrive in Eastbourne, Sussex, on Friday, August 13, and spend a day at the annual air show “Airbourne”.

They will then set off on the 110-mile walk to Winchester, Hampshire.

About 15 pupils will be taking part in the walk being organised by two members of the senior leadership team, David Kemp and Bonnie Griffiths.

Party leader David Kemp said: “This is a very exciting trip. Having lived in Sussex for a number of years, I know the area very well and we will be taking other staff with us to share the walking.

“It is hoped that staff not walking will be the back-up team each day to save having to carry all our equipment.

The students are very keen to start their final year at the college with a big event to support others.”

Ms Griffiths said: “This follows a successful trip last summer when Mr Kemp and I took a small group walking in the Peak District. Hopefully though, the weather this year will be more suited to walking and we will not be soaked every day. We do hope lots of people and firms will sponsor us in our efforts for Acorns.”

The event follows the music department’s support of Acorns at Christmas which raised £1,000 for the hospice.
