A GRIEVING father has paid tribute to his “special and amazing” biker son who died in a road accident.

Sebastian Abbatiello – known as Seb – of Hanley Swan, near Malvern, was due to start a university course just a month after the crash on the A449 at Chances Pitch, near Colwall, last August.

He lived with his family and had previously lived in Bath Road, Worcester.

Seb, aged 19, a former Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College pupil, also went to Hanley Castle High School and later Worcester College of Technology.

He loved motorbikes and extreme sports and was a talented keyboard player but excelled on computers, building his first at 15.

He landed a job at local firm Bits Computers at Welland, near Malvern, before even leaving school.

Speaking after the inquest into his death his father, also called Sebastian – who competed in the World’s Strongest Man competition – said parents are not supposed to outlive their children. “It’s not right him dying so young,” he said. “He was just an amazing, special lad who was going somewhere in his life.

“He had just won his place at the University of Worcester where he was going to study computer programming.

“Sebastian was a bit of a thrillseeker who loved life. We think about him every day.”

The inquest heard from Roderick James who was driving his Vauxhall Frontera along the A449 on August 8, ahead of a taxi and Mr Abbatiello’s 125cc Yamaha motorbike.

He said he indicated to turn right into a lane but just as he began the manoeuvre, he heard the bike “scream” as it passed him, with Mr Abbatiello leaving the bike before crashing into a tree.

The taxi driver, Wajeed Ali, said he remembered thinking “what is he doing?” as the bike passed him.

He believed Mr Abbatiello tried to turn up the lane as “an escape route” after fearing he would collide with the Vauxhall. Pathologist Dr Paul Dunn said the cause of death was shock and haemorrhage caused by severe chest and back injuries.

Herefordshire’s assistant deputy coroner, Roland Wooderson, said it was possible that Mr Abbatiello did not see the Vauxhall’s indicators and tried to drive up the lane to avoid a collision.

He recorded a verdict of accidental death.
