Alison will aim to stop bullying in hospitals

THE first hospital staff governor for Worcestershire is on a mission to stamp out bullying and harassment.

Alison Stanley, head orthoptist at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, has been elected to the new council of governors unopposed because there were no other candidates for the post.

The council is the body which will represent patients and staff once Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust becomes a foundation trust – now scheduled for May 1.

Mrs Stanley is now the sole representative for the professional and technical staff.

She has worked for the trust for more than 20 years and said: “This is an exciting time for the trust and I am really pleased to be a part of it.

“I think we do a lot of really good work here and I feel the experience I have gained over the last 20 years will be of use to the staff members I represent and also the council of governors. As a staff governor I will seek to promote efforts to wipe out bullying and harassment in the workplace.”

Trust chairman Michael O’Riordan said: “Alison’s experience and knowledge of the trust and the NHS in general will no doubt make her invaluable to the council. The governors will be responsible for representing the interests of the public and staff membership and will inevitably play a vital role in our success as a foundation trust.”

The public elections to the council of governors will be taking place today. They are independently and impartially managed by Electoral Reform Services and the results will be announced on Monday A full list of nominations can be viewed at the trust’s website worcsacute.nhs.uk.
