youngsters came to school dressed to lessons as their favourite children’s book characters.
Pupils at Perdiswell Primary School in Bilford Road, Worcester, put on a colourful display helping to mark World Book Day which fell last week.
But in a sign of the times the usual popularity of characters from the Harry Potter books was this year eclipsed by those inspired by the latest big screen adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, which is in cinemas now.
The school’s Year 5 class teacher Alan Taylor said: “We had a lot of colourful characters in school to emphasise the value of reading a good book. They enjoyed it.”
The pupils had a double treat with a visit from the firefighters of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, who were talking to Year 5 pupils about the importance of properly fitted smoke alarms in the home.
“They’ll take the safety message back to their parents,” said Mr Taylor.
