Could your charity use £10,000?

WORTHY causes can bid for donations of up to £10,000 from a city charity.

Worcester Round Table have announced the donor drive following the huge generosity of residents over the past year.

The group has raised enough money through events such as the Worcester Christmas Fayre chestnut stall and the Pitchcroft bonfire and fireworks display to make a big difference to a single cause.

Group chairman Tim Ward said: “We want to make a bigger difference. We continue to support groups with smaller donations but we want to give a larger lump sum.

“It’s important to stress that our money is donated by local people and gets spent on local people.”

Bidders, which can be individuals, clubs, societies and charities with a specific worthy aim, must be operating in Worcester.

They are asked to apply in writing to the Round Table. The winning bidder will be announced in May.

Mr Ward said that while members wanted to do “something tangible” with the money, the charity also aimed to help the smaller city charities, many of which have been hit hard by falling donations in the economic downturn.

“The hope is that this giveaway comes at the right time,” said Mr Ward.

The winner will be announced at the group’s other major fund-raising event, its annual charity golf day, in mid-May.

Last year, the gathered donors heard from Nick Crowther, father of brave two-year-old Ruby Crowther, who has a debilitating nerve condition and received £4,500 for a specially adapted wheelchair.

Applications sent by post should be marked Worcester Round Table Charity 10K, 150-152 London Road, Worcester, Worcestershire, WR5 2EJ or alternatively email info@worcester-rt.org The deadline for applications is Friday, March 26.
