A STRAY puppy stolen from a dogs home in Evesham last year has been found more than 150 miles away.
Munchie, an eight-month-old lurcher, was taken with his brother Pickles when the Dogs Trust Evesham was broken into in October.
He was found in the car park of Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford, Kent – 171 miles away – and taken to the nearest Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Canterbury.
Both pups were microchipped by the charity and reported as stolen. So when Munchie was scanned by the Dartford council dog warden he was immediately identified.
Sadly, Pickles is still missing.
Chris Slight, Dogs Trust Evesham centre manager, said: “At Dogs Trust we microchip all our dogs and this is a great example of the technology in action.
“If Munchie had not been microchipped with our contact details and flagged as stolen we might never have seen him again.
“Collars and tags are easily removed but microchips are a permanent form of identification. All the staff here were over the moon to hear that Munchie had been found and although it’s sad his brother is still missing we’re hopeful that one day he will be scanned by a vet or a dog warden and returned to the Dogs Trust.”
Munchie is now being looked after at the Canterbury centre from where it is hoped he will be found a new home.
Dogs Trust offers a low-cost dog microchipping service for only £10.
For more information, or to arrange a microchipping appointment, contact Dogs Trust Evesham on 01386 830613 or visit dogstrust.org.uk.
