IT IS with great sadness we report the death of our former sports editor Jack Godfrey.

Jack’s name was synonymous with Worcestershire sport, in particular county cricket, throughout a career that spanned five decades until his retirement in 1979.

Jack ran the sports desk at what was then the Evening News for more than 30 years and a number of leading sports journalists learnt their trade from him.

His passing at the age of 95 marks the end of an era for journalism in this area.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his widow Betty and son Richard.
