YOUNGSTERS who have achieved much in sport, music, the arts and in the community have been rewarded for their efforts.

Nineteen young people aged between 12 and 19 and two young people’s groups were recognised in this year’s Tryangle Awards.

The awards were staged by Worcestershire County Council and the 19 winners were chosen from 108 nominess across the county by a selection panel who met last month.

Callie-Ann Halliday, aged 16, of Malvern, was rewarded for her achievement in sports or outdoor activities; Emma Ellis, aged 13, and Charlotte Ellis, aged 15, both of Malvern, and David Bunn, aged 18, of Tenbury Wells, for personal achievement in music.

Astra William, aged 16, of Droitwich, was rewarded for personal achievement in the arts, and Paul Fearnall, aged 16, of Droitwich, for personal development.

Carol Brown, aged 12, of the Glade, Malvern, was rewarded for bravery. She roused her family from their sleep and saved them when the house next door was firebombed. The fire killed Richard Perkins, 38. The man responsible for the attack, Stephen Davies, was subsequently jailed for murder and arson.

The successful Tryangle Awards candidates were honoured in front of their peers, family and friends in a two-hour ceremony at County Hall, Worester.

Councillor Liz Eyre, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for children and young people (12-19 years), said: “We were delighted to have been able to meet these inspirational young people and personally reward them for simply being themselves.

“We would like to thank everybody who has played a part in this year’s awards, not just the nominees, but the people who stepped forward and made the nominations and, of course, the organisers. We are already looking forward to next year’s awards.”
