TWO girls hope they have what it takes to be crowned Miss Worcester.
Entries have been coming in thick and fast for the competition, which will see the winner go on to represent the city in the prestigious Miss England competition.
If they win that, they will then have a shot at becoming Miss World.
These first entrants into Miss Worcester 2010, which is being sponsored by Worcester nightspots Sin and Bushwackers, are student Alice Watkins, aged 19, of Colwall, near Malvern, and part-time waitress Leanne Williams, 16, of Ronkswood, Worcester.
The current Miss Worcester Leanne Groutage, aged 18, of Holt Heath, has already spoken about how wearing the crown for the last 10 months has helped her personally and professionally.
There have been a number of changes to this year’s Miss Worcester event, with entrants not needing to take part in a talent contest at this stage.
The competition has also been switched from its traditional evening slot to take place during a family fun day at Worcester Racecourse on Sunday, May 9.
The event will include lots of activities for children, including a fair, face painting and even a small zoo.
Contestants taking part will have to dress up and be interviewed by a competition host. A list of questions they might be asked will be sent out before the event.
The closing date for entries to Miss Worcester 2010 is 5pm on Friday, March 26.
After all the entries are in, Worcester News readers will vote for the 10 finalists.
All of the girls who make it to that stage will be in line to receive a goody bag while plans are also being developed so that the finalists can take part in some modelling.
