Trapped! Pub landlord can't get out of his driveway

A WORCESTER pub landlord has been unable to move his car for the past two days after a water company carried out work in front of his driveway and blocked him in.

Dennis Moughan, of the Grosvenor Arms, Henwick Road, St John’s, went to drive to a doctor’s appointment on Monday morning but was forced to cancel.

When he went to take his car out yesterday he was still blocked in by the roadworks.

Worcestershire County Council confirmed Severn Trent Water were called to repair a burst water main in Bromyard Terrace, off Henwick Road, on Monday.

Following the repair, the entrance to Bromyard Terrace was coned off awaiting resurfacing work, resulting in several cars being blocked in.

Mr Moughan said: “Luckily the appointment I had to cancel wasn’t a matter of life and death but it could have been. Getting blocked in for two days is completely ridiculous. What was I supposed to do if there was an emergency?

“They didn’t give me any notice whatsoever about the work they were doing and how long the roadworks would be in place.

“It caused chaos along the road with cars unable get past and others getting blocked in completely. Some people were attempting to move the signs and bollards to try and park their cars. Some people had to turn around. I have never seen anything like it before.”

Severn Trent Water said they received reports of the leak in Bromyard Terrace on Wednesday, March 3.

A spokesman added: “A repair job was scheduled to take place at the earliest opportunity, and works began on Monday, March 15. These works are now complete and the road re-surfacing is set to be completed by Wednesday, March 17.

“Letters were hand delivered to properties on Bromyard Terrace on Friday, March 12 advising that the works were due to take place from Monday and access may be restricted.

“Severn Trent would like to apologise for any inconvenience or disruption caused by our works and would like to thank customers for their patience.”

The road works were still blocking off access to Bromyard Terrace, trapping a number of cars, as your Worcester News went to press.

Would he rather the leak hadn't been repaired?

I'd have shrugged my shoulders and walked, cycled, or taken a taxi if my health prevented me from doing the former.
Maybe he should see this as an opportunity to look at alternatives to driving everywhere.

This isn't really about finding alternatives to driving, it's about Severn Trent's inability to communicate with it's customers, and I have to say, if I'd not been warned about the disruption I'd be fairly annoyed too.
I find it hard to believe that they issued warnings, why else would there have been so much apparent chaos?

This is one of the best examples in a while of some pathetic news reporting and small minded individuals. He probably only wanted to go out and get some chips. Also, even if he had been given notice of the works, he would have kicked up a fuss, and we would be reading a report about that in the Worcester News.

Please read the item before you comment please.
He wanted to go to a doctor's Appointment not the chip shop.
Does it really matter why he wanted to use his car? Surely it would make sense for someone to have knocked on his door and given him a chance to move the car before it was blocked in.

Quite.

Just what gives severn trent the right to deprive somebody of use of their car ?
