Woman hurt after car rolls into brook

A WOMAN has escaped serious injury after her car rolled down a ditch into a brook.

The driver, believed to be in her 50s, suffered chest injuries and was trapped in the car for 25 minutes before firefighters could free her from the wreckage.

The accident happened at about 8.30am today, in Spindle Road, Malvern.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found a car had left the road and rolled over.

“The car had come to rest on its roof in a brook around 10ft below the road.

“The driver was treated at the scene by ambulance staff whilst being extricated from the car by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

“She was immobilised using a spinal board and neck collar and transferred by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

“Considering the damage to the vehicle and the fact it came to rest upside down in a water filled brook, the woman was fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries.”
