ONE of the founders of the Midlands Air Ambulance has been given a new role within the organisation.

Former paramedic Ian “Nick” Nicholls, aged 52, was instrumental in setting up the charity.

He championed the need for an air ambulance serving the whole of the Midlands and was a dedicated fund-raiser.

He has had to take a back seat in recent years as the effects of multiple sclerosis have become more challenging.

But Mr Nicholls, from Halesowen, has now been made executive assistant to the charity directory, a role created in recognition of his wealth of experience, his understanding of the organisation and his close relationships with volunteers and donors.

Charity director Hanna Sebright said: “I am absolutely delighted that Nick has agreed to take on the role of executive assistant and to continue providing Midlands Air Ambulance with his invaluable support.

“He has an unbelievable passion with a terrific sense of humour and is always wearing a smile.

“He is an inspiration to us all and I am quite sure that without him, the Midlands Air Ambulance would not be where it is or what it is today.”

The Midlands Air Ambulance, which relies entirely on donations to keep it running, has flown more than 30,000 mercy missions since it was launched in 1991.
