A PAINTER from Worcestershire who has had great success displaying her art in London galleries is putting on her first exhibition in her home town.

Olwen Tarrant, of Yew Tree Lane, Upper Welland, Malvern is the only woman to have been president of the Royal Society of Oil Painter which has its headquarters in The Mall, London.

Mrs Tarrant has lived in Upper Welland for the past 15 years but her paintings are better known in London galleries than any in Worcestershire. But in a new move this month, Mrs Tarrant has decided to exhibit about 30 of her paintings and drawings and half-a-dozen of her sculptures at Malvern Library gallery.

The exhibition is running until next Saturday and includes pieces of her latest work as well as award-winning paintings. Ms Tarrant said: “I have never regretted moving to Upper Welland.

“I am so lucky to look out of my studio windows onto the unique, intriguing hills.

“I usually paint in the mornings and I thoroughly enjoy my morning coffee break looking onto the scenes that inspired Edward Elgar and so many others. In a modest way, I think they inspire me too.”

Ms Tarrant splits her year between Upper Welland and her studio in Puerto Pollensa, which lies in the northern part of Mallorca, where the scenery – especially mountains and hills – also inspires much of her work.
