We’re ready for the Race4Men

FIVE fit Army personnel are getting ready to run 5km for Worcestershire’s very first Race4Men.

The race, being held on RGS The Grange’s playing field in Claines, Worcester, is being held to highlight male cancers.

To support the charitable event, the men from Worcester’s Army Careers Information Office in Foregate Street will also carry the only female member of the team – Sergeant Gemma Jones – around the course on a stretcher.

Warrant Officer 1 Dale Norman, Sergeant James Smith, Sgt Darren Hartmann and Sgt Mike Herbert, whose ages range from 26 to 40, are all determined to get fit for the challenge.

Werz Reaves, a former member of the office and who is now a paramedic in Worcester, has provided the stretcher and will join the team on the day.

Mr Reaves said: “We were inspired by the amount of public support we have received in the past for troops in Afghanistan so we felt it was time to endure some discomfort by carrying the only female member of the team, Sgt Gemma Jones, along on a stretcher.”

The event, which will start at 11am on Sunday, April 11, has been organised by Alistair Craigie, of Droitwich, who himself is planning a career in the Army.

Race4Men is open to all males but those under 18 will need a signed parental disclaimer on the day.

It costs £6 to register and entrants will receive a fund-raising pack containing a sponsor form.
