Sculpture in memory of city stalwart is unveiled

A SCULPTURE to honour a Worcester stalwart has been officially unveiled.

The artwork features helmets, breastplates and pikes to represent the opposing sides of the Civil War.

The £14,000 memorial has been erected in memory of Stuart McNidder – a former head of development services at Worcester City Council.

Placed on the canal bridge at Sidbury beside the Commandery, it has been attached to the bridge parapet wall and was designed to be visually prominent.

In an online ballot at worcesternews.co.uk, 63 per cent of voters said they loved the sculpture, nine per cent hated it and 28 per cent rated it as ‘so-so’.

Great Sculputure, great tribute, maybe sometime in the future the council or Severn Trent will enhance it and the area even more by removing the wall and installing some sort of iron balustrade where visitors can see through and watch the boats navigating the lock and opening up the view down the canal to Diglis. Nice sculpture pity about the wall.
