READERS queueing up to visit a Hollywood-style Malverns sign due to be erected on the Malvern Hills may be disappointed.

This morning, we reported that the £200,000 lottery-funded sign had been given the go-ahead and would be created by Italian sculpture Paolo di Farlys.

However, as many readers correctly guessed, the story was not true but an April Fool’s joke.

Among the first eagle-eyed readers to get the joke was Natasha Sampson, aged 13, who emailed in to say she was not fooled.

She said: “Nice try on the Malvern Hills page but Paolo di Farlys spells out April Fool’s day.”

Online readers were also quickly in on the joke with MrStJohns, St John’s first to write: “Lol April the first by any chance?”

Other clues within the story included the fictitious body, the Federation of Outdoor Landscapes (FOOL), which has apparently agreed the plan.

A final hint was that the sculpture was due to be installed by April 1 next year.

Thanks to all our fun-loving readers who emailed, called in or posted a comment on the story.
