VILLAGE OF THE YEAR: Willersey has won the Cotswold Life Village of the Year competition and the prize is a village fete to be held on August 20.

The fete is being organised by Cotswold Life with a village liaison committee's help and is likely to include a celebrity opening, rides and stalls and circus. VILLAGE FORUM: The next meeting of the village forum will be in the village hall on Friday, June 17 at 7.30pm. The forum is open to residents to afford an opportunity to raise any matters of local and general interest. Inquiries to Maurice Andrews, chairman.

WILLERSEY FOOTLIGHTS: The Footlights Follies show held in a marquee at the village hall on two evenings last week was attended by about 400 people and was a resounding success. The programme included items of war-time memories and excerpts from shows as well as more modern music and show girls routines. The cast of 40 and backstage staff of 22, came up with a professional production under the direction of Cathy Watts and Neville Jelfs, Gill O'Donoghue and Philip Bennett.

MOBILE LIBRARY: The next visits of the Gloucestershire Mobile Library will be on Tuesdays, June 7 and 21, calling at Collin Close (2.40pm) and The Bell Inn (3.05pm).

MOBILE POLICE STATION: The next visit of the mobile police station, accompanied by the district council advice unit will be on Wednesday, between 9.45am and 10.45am at the Jubilee Tree on the village green.

COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning will be held in the Methodist Church Rooms and Garden on Friday, June 10 at 10am in aid of the Crack Cancer campaign.

WEDNESDAY CLUB: At the recent meeting members heard a talk, with slides, on the Elephants of Botswana and the National Park in Kenya, given by Phred and Bob Newbury. The chairman, Lesley Goodliffe thanked them on this, a return visit to the club.

At the next meeting the speaker will be Tony Caldwell on John Wainwright's Coast to Coast.

ANNIVERSARY SERVICE: The Rector, the Rev David Vince, held a special service in St Peter's Church, which focused on Peace and Reconciliation on the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The Rector was assisted by Canon Anthony Harvey and the readings were by Jean Smith and Maurice Andrews.
