UP and coming turntablists are being given the opportunity to win regular work on the decks and record vouchers at a competition in Stourport.

Bar St Martin is hosting a Battle of the DJs contest throughout July and would-be competitors are being urged to contact the venue's marketing manager, Gary Shuck.

The competition will consist of four heats, taking place every Thursday in July, with the winners going through to a final on Thursday, August 4.

The line-up for that will be decided by DJs from Deuce Soundsystem - the company which launched the original Battle of the DJs concept in Wyre Forest in 2002 - although their decisions will be influenced by the crowd, according to Mr Shuck.

Adding he would be contacting record companies and inviting representatives to the event, he said: "What we're looking for is talented DJs and they might not necessarily win but they still have a chance of getting recognised. Any coverage we can give these DJs will raise their profile."

He added that each of the 16 contestants competing in the contest would be given 50 tickets for the night they played to enable them to see familiar faces in the crowd.

The overall winner will not only win £100 of record vouchers but also the opportunity of regular work if they are "good enough", Mr Shuck added.

Anyone over 18 wishing to take part in the competition should contact Mr Shuck on 01299 828881 or 01299 827272 or write to him at Bar St Martin, 11 York Street, Stourport, DY13 9EF.
