WEDNESDAY CLUB: Mr J Ford gave a demonstration talk on Ceramic Painting. His hobby developed in the late 60s and was first used by him as a therapy and later developed as a passion. Many of his smaller items of ceramic jewellery - dishes and trinket pots were offered on sale to members.

Mrs Christine Pring from the village gave a talk with demonstrations of flower arranging. With a keen interest and mainly being self-taught, her hobby developed. Members watched how pieces of oasis in various dishes could be transformed into various attractive floral arrangements, which were later claimed by four raffle winners.

An outing to Tenbury Wells by 26 members to see the growing of all varieties of clematis was enjoyed. Joan Chaloner has already planned another outing to Malmesbury in Wiltshire on June 29 at a coach cost of £9.

GARDENING CLUB: The chairman welcomed members to the May meeting. Thanks were given to Ena Thompson for her organisation of the annual holiday to Cornwall. The proprietors of Stratford Garden Centre were also thanked for their hospitality and demonstrations during the club's recent visit. Members were asked to consider contributing needlework for a commemorative piece for the club's 25th anniversary. These would be entered for the autumn show. Tickets for the club's garden party to be held on July 1 were on sale.

Guest speaker was Peter Dodds, who appeared surrounded by a collection of plants from his Willersey nursery. Mr Dodds encouraged club members to think about the importance of foliage shape and colour in their gardens and he suggested some combinations to give colour contrast throughout the seasons. During the interval, the audience purchased plants that were for sale. Mr Dodds was thanked by the chairman.

The monthly competition, a spray from a flowering shrub, was won by Mairie Phillipson.
