ORGANISERS of the inaugural Broadway Horse Trials are so confident of success, plans to extend next year's event have already been made.

Host Nigel Tabor, of Lybrook Farm, is a former professional international event rider, having competed at Badminton, Blenheim and Burghley.

He believes this year's debut event, which includes a farmers' market and craft fair, will bring benefits to everyone in the village.

Mr Tabor said: "There is a lack of events of this kind in the area and it is something we can involve the whole village with. With the farmers' market and craft fair this is going to be much more than just a horse trial.

"We have been astounded by the interest from people - we have got competitors coming from all over the country, including Norfolk and Scotland. There are seven sections with around 40 competitors in each, a mix of professionals riding young horses and amateur riders doing it for fun."

The course for the event, planned for this Sunday, has been specially designed by Mr Tabor.

It includes numerous special features, such as water jumps and drop fences, for the 350 entrants.

Interest has been so high one section is being held before the main event and next year's trails are likely to be spread over two days.

Mr Tabor added: "This is a beautiful part of the countryside and this is giving people the opportunity to ride over lovely pasture and jump nice fences. We have already got a date for next year because it has to be properly run and affiliated."
