A textile designer whose work is her passion has just won a professional photography shoot to publicise her latest creations.

Nicola Thomson designs and produces knitted and felted fashion clothing and interior furnishings, including cushions and throws, from her Leigh Sinton home.

She was chosen for the shoot by the British Arts Council, which picked her work from hundreds of entries because of its unique and innovative qualities.

"It's a real thrill to be chosen from such a high number of extremely talented UK-based designers and craftsmen," said Nicola, whose work will be shown in a number of national magazines following the shoot, on February 2.

"It means I'll get national publicity and it's an accolade for the quality of my work."

After graduating from Birmingham University, Nicola worked as an interior designer before setting up her own design and production business.

She now exhibits in venues across the country, provides work for around 40 designer outlets and says she sometimes can't keep up with the demand.

"I'm having to double my production to keep up with the demand, but although I work really long hours, I absolutely love doing it.

"As a kid, I was always sewing things and cutting things up, it's a bit of a passion for me.

"To be successful in selling my work is fantastic and I'll keep going indefinitely."

Nicola's work is currently on display at the Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery and the Blue Ginger Gallery in Stiffords Bridge.

She is now looking for a female model to accompany her to the photo shoot in London, to wear the clothes. Anyone interested can contact Nicola on 01886 833052.
