A YOUNG singing star from Malvern got an early Christmas present when she met her pop idols in a London hotel on Friday.

Jemma Hixon, 13, a pupil at Malvern Girls' College, spent an hour chatting to girl trio the Sugababes after winning a talent contest on BBC 1's The Saturday Show.

She is now more determined than ever to become a professional singer.

Jemma said the Sugababes were really nice and gave her lots of good advice about getting into the music industry.

"They were telling me about what they did in their time off and said all they wanted to do was see their families," she added.

Jemma gave the girls a tape of her performing songs by Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and the Sugababes themselves, which they promised to listen to.

Her dad Mark took a picture of his daughter with the group. He said she seemed to fit in quite nicely, despite being just 13-years-old.

After meeting the Sugababes in the KWest hotel, Jemma went to Wembley where she saw boy band Busted, another favourite groups, perform.

Her prize also included an overnight stay in the Hilton hotel.

Jemma sang her way to triumph in the final of a Sugababes karaoke competition on The Saturday Show in September.

Her version of the group's song Round Round received the most votes from viewers.

In the months since the show, her singing has been going from strength to strength.

She achieved honours in her Grade Four singing exam earlier this month and performed in the Malvern Girls' College Evolution talent show in November.
