SINGERS are being given the opportunity to join in with a performance of one of the great choral works - Faur's Requiem.

Stratford Choral Society is taking bookings for the choral workshop being staged on Saturday, September 17, at the town's famous Holy Trinity Church.

Starting at 11am, there will be two rehearsal sessions before a performance at 5pm.

Gabriel Faur began work on the Requiem in 1887, influenced by the deaths of his own parents. It was completed in 1888 and was premiered at a funeral service. Laying emphasis on rest and peace, it was designed as a liturgical work to be performed in church.

Stephen Dodsworth will be conducting the event in September. He is director of music at King Edward VI school in Stratford, assistant director of music at Holy Trinity and choral society conductor since 1990. He is also a composer, organist and pianist.

Anyone interested in paying £10 to join in (music can be hired on the day for £2), can contact Mrs Penny Williams on 01789 299618.
