LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: A tour of Welford was the itinerary for this year's evening visit.

Ray Castle, secretary of Welford and Weston Local History Society, hosted the event for the 70-strong audience. With the aid of an information pack created for the occasion, members toured the landmarks of the village. Then, after meeting at the parish church of St Peter, a history of the building was presented by Peter Deakin. Members returned on a tranquil footpath to the starting-point of the tour at the memorial hall. The return was greeted with refreshments prepared by the ladies of Welford and Weston Local History Society.

The next talk, The Golden Age of Coaching, will be presented by Graham Sutherland at 8pm on Wednesday, August 10 at the Greig Centre, Alcester. The town crier of Warwick will explain how the heyday of stagecoaches had an impact on places like Alcester. Members and visitors are welcome.
