Described as a classic tale of unrequited love, the stage adaptation of Henry James' Daisy Miller fails to satisfy.
The story, though interesting, lacks the intrigue and magic promised in the programme and left me feeling indifferent to the plight of the central characters.
Dalliances between flighty Daisy and stilted Frederick Winterbourne are passionless and frustratingly lacklustre, and culminate in an emotionless ending.
This said, Scarlett Johnson plays the lead role well, and American accents are tackled with ease throughout the cast.
Jean Boht provides comedy touches as the disapproving aunt, who finds displeasure in anything and everything, and Sandra Dickinson is well-cast as highly-strung Mrs Miller.
Set design was neat and effective, and fluid scenery changes kept the play flowing seamlessly.
All in all the play provides a pleasant though not thought-provoking evening of entertainment.
