A skilled blacksmith duo will fire up the forge for visitors in Herefordshire Art Week, h.Art.

Alex Wilkins and his 17-year-old son Floyd, from Stretton Grandison, near Ledbury, will welcome visitors to their workshop at Newhouse Farm throughout the event, from September 10-18.

The pair make anything from curtain poles and candlesticks through to hardware and even gates.

"I used to be a scrap man until I took this up 11 years ago, but I can't throw anything away now," said Mr Wilkins, whose grandfather was also a blacksmith.

"Somebody said to me, 'if you find a job you truly love, you'll never do another day's work in your life', well I've found that job."

He added: "We're really looking forward to the event and are ready to entertain."

The pair are among more than 200 Herefordshire-based artists and craftsmen displaying work at venues across the county.

Others include textile artist Rosalind Johansson, of Lower Eggleton, who will show African-inspired prints at her studio from September 14-18.

Bosbury-based artist Vronique Yapp will demonstrate papier-mch techniques all week and woodwork pieces from various craftsmen will be on display at Clissett Wood Barn, near Bosbury, both weekends.

Numerous galleries will welcome the public, including Artistree in Ledbury, Brockhampton's Apple Store Gallery, The Garden Gallery, Norton Downs, near Bromyard, and the Hop Pocket Craft Centre, Bishops Frome.

Admission to venues is free with small charges for activities. Free programmes are available at libraries and tourist information centres or from 01568 797842.
