THE packed house that enjoyed The Burning Bush at Ludlow Assembly Rooms in February should make a beeline for the September 16 concert by the Polish klezmer group Kroke.

It will be a different style of Jewish music, combining a number of influences with the core 600-year klezmer tradition, which derives from sources such as wedding songs, village festivities and laments.

The group's name is Polish for Cracow, one of Europe's most important centres of Jewish life until 1939.

The three members of Kroke have independent musical careers but have worked together since 1992.

Accordion player Jerzy Bawol's style comes from his grandfather, an acclaimed klezmer musician. Tomasz Lato on double bass has played with both classical orchestras and jazz bands. Tomasz Kukurba combines vocals with viola, violin and percussion. He too has a jazz and classical background.

Kroke's two-hour gig in Ludlow starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on 01584 878141.
