VILLAGE HALL: The village hall appeal fund was increased by £1,435 last weekend as a result of the successful autumn fair which was held on Saturday afternoon. Speaking about it the next day, chairman John Redman said how much the effort owed to the particularly hard work of several members of the management committee who, with their helpers, had produced a sale which was obviously worth attending and had made a pleasant village occasion of the whole event.

He said how grateful he and the committee are for the support given by Harvington residents, many of whom are showing an increasing awareness of the need to demonstrate how important a part the hall plays in the life of the village.

FIREWORK NIGHT: The members of Harvington First School's PTFA announced that they will be hosting a fireworks night again this year on Friday, November 4. It will be held on the playing field starting promptly at 7.15pm. Hot food will be sold in the village hall from 6.30pm onwards. Tickets can be obtained from the post office, the Spar shop in Leys Road, the school itself and from Becky Muir on 870775. Prices are; adults £3, children £2, family tickets to admit two adults and two children £8.

ST JAMES' CHURCH: St James' Church is holding a Litenite service on Saturday evening, October 29, at 5.30pm at which there will be a pumpkin parade but, also, an attempt to discover the true magic of Halloween. All children from across the Benefice, together with parents who feel that they would like to be included in this fascinating exercise, will be most warmly welcome.

The following day, there will be no morning service at St James but at Church Lench, at 10am, there is to be an All Saints service at which the Rev Fran Battin, the new non-stipendiary priest now living in Harvington, will be formally welcomed into the Benefice.
