FANS of jazz and swing music can put on their dancing shoes and head to Kidderminster Town Hall.

The NC Big Band and singers will be performing at a Grand Valentine's Dance on Saturday, February 11 at 8pm.

It will perform music by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Count Basie, Ted Heath and the Dorseys as well as tunes from other popular swing bands.

The band, which is based in Dudley, has 18 members, including saxophonists, Barrie Pitt and Mark Wilkinson, tenor saxophonist, Lee Coley and drummer, Roger Bruton, who has backed British and American jazz and R 'n' B stars during tours of the Midlands.

Led by keyboard player, Neil Coley, it performs monthly Monday Night Swing Sessions in its home town, as well as Kinver.

The band is promising to entertain people who danced to live bands in the 1940s, 50s and 60s and is also hoping the event will appeal to younger dancers who have been inspired by the television show, Strictly Come Dancing.

Mr Bruton said the band was looking forward to its first performance in the town hall, adding: "It is a nice town hall. We have played at private functions in Kidderminster but this is the first public event. We hope it's the first of many. We want to extend our activities in Kidderminster.

"We are trying to recapture the glamour of dancing and the live music of a big band that was so popular in the 40s 50s and 60s. Our aim is to keep selling live big band music to the public. In these days of so much karaoke, we are campaigning to keep live music alive."

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are available from the town hall, 01562 732158 or 01384 252857. For further information about the band, visit the website at www.ncbigband.freeuk.com
