THE Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra will be making a welcome return visit to the Priory Church, Leominster, on Sunday, February 26.
In addition to being a popular part of Leominster Festival's annual June programme, the BPO have been visiting Leominster in February for the last few years to give a Sunday afternoon concert.
This year their programme includes works by Malcolm Arnold and Jean Sibelius.
One of the works by Arnold is the Peterloo Overture. Another is Tam O'Shanter, a "fantasy overture" depicting the wild night ride of Robert Burns' Scottish rascal.
Sibelius' Second Symphony has major themes that were developed during a stay in Italy, and several were originally conceived for a tone poem to be based on Dante's Divine Comedy.
Yet the style of the symphony is unmistakably Sibelian, inescapably Finnish.
Tickets are available from Gills Gifts, Buttercross Arcade, Leominster; Best Wishes Card Shop, High Street; or by post to Mrs J Dickson, 101 Etnam Street, Leominster (send SAE and cheque payable to Leominster Festival).
