BMW's compact executive car, the 3 Series, has walked away with the top gong at the What Car? Magazine's awards
The German firm's new rival to the likes of Audis A4 was named Car of the Year in an event dominated by foreign manufacturers.
No other new car was as great in so many ways as the BMW 3 Series. Whatever your priorities, it delivered, said What Car? group editor Steve Fowler. Last year's overall winner - the Land Rover Discovery - was the only British-built model to take an award this year, being named large 4x4 winner. Skoda took best small family car for the Skoda Octavia and best hot hatch for its sporty Octavia vRS. Renault took top honours in the supermini class with its new Clio.
